Do vitamins really improve your vision?

While they shouldn’t be treated as a cure for poor vision, a healthy diet filled with the right vitamins and nutrients can certainly keep your eyes at their peak of physical fitness. Ideally you will find everything you need in most fruits, vegetables and nuts, however supplements can also be purchased to top up your bodies vitamin and nutrient levels.

Which Vitamins work best for eyes?

Vitamin A: You might have heard the old rumour that eating plenty of carrots could help you see in the dark. Well in reality this isn’t too far from the truth. While they won’t turn you into a superhero, carrots do contain high amounts of Rhodopsin, beta carotene and, most importantly, Vitamin A. This cocktail of nutrients not only allow you to see clearly at night, they can also keep cataracts and age related sight loss at bay.

Vitamin C: Often described as being essential to a healthy diet, Vitamin C is a highly effective antioxidant that will also slow cataracts and help to keep your eyes clear and healthy. Luckily it can be found in a number of fruits and vegetables, such as oranges, kiwi’s strawberries and even broccoli.

Vitamin E: Many studies have also found Vitamin E to have huge benefits in the fight against cataracts and macular degeneration. Found most commonly in nuts like almonds and peanuts, you can also find traces in dried apricots and sunflower seeds.

Lutein: As well as your regular vitamins, making sure you have plenty of the nutrient lutein can have significant benefits for your eyes. In fact, lutein can actually be found in your retinas, so make sure you’re eating enough kale or spinach to keep any age-related vision problems away.
